Andy Murray Rescues Dog From Busy London Road
Former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has delighted dog lovers after he stopped his car to rescue a wandering pooch from oncoming traffic.
The reigning Scottish champion was driving to practice at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club when he spotted a Labradoodle who had got itself into trouble on a busy London road.
Andy’s soft side obviously took over as the tennis champ got out his car and stopped oncoming traffic in order to rescue the distressed pooch.
“I parked the car at the traffic lights and got out the car and tried to stop the traffic,” he said in an interview with BBC Sport.
Andy’s used to chasing balls, not pooches!
After bundling the dog into his car, Andy drove to a nearby park where he suspected the owner may have been walking their pet. Sure enough, a quick call to the phone number on the dog’s tag reunited the pooch with its worried owner.
“She was happy I’d picked it up but it had obviously been chasing something because it was absolutely shattered, it was drooling everywhere in the car, panting, but thankfully it was safe” he added.
Coincidentally, it turns out that the lost pup takes regular walks with Andy’s own two dogs. It sounds like Surrey is a small town!
It doesn’t surprise us that Andy made the effort to save the lost pooch as he’s made it quite clear he’s a self confessed dog lover! In fact, his Border Terrier Maggie May even has her very own Twitter account.

This is a fantastic example of just how important it is to give your pet adequate identification such as ID tags and microchips. At the very least, it could be the difference between a quick reunion or a distressing trip to the pound!
The Wimbledon tournament kicks off on Monday and will see Murray face Belgian tennis star David Goffin. No doubt Andy’s two pups and his new found furry friend will be cheering him on!
